Zi Wei Dou Shu and BaZi are often searched together and mashed into one “Chinese fortune” bucket. They share a cultural family, not the same symbols, chart grammar, or typical questions.
Contrast
| BaZi (Zi Ping-style context) | Zi Wei Dou Shu | |
|---|---|---|
| Core symbols | Stems & branches, four pillars | Stars, twelve palaces, etc. |
| Typical input | Birth datetime (+ timezone policy) | Also needs birth time; derivation path differs |
| Output shape | Pillars, gods, luck cycles (by school) | Palace–star configurations |
| Vocabulary | Day master, structures, useful gods | Palaces, major stars, four transformations |
Do not paste BaZi conclusions into a Zi Wei reading or the reverse.
Product roadmap honesty
Daovian’s MVP deep work is Today, BaZi, and almanac/date selection — one calendar/stem-branch engine, many surfaces. Zi Wei is a placeholder until computation and sources are ready. Marketing may explain; the app must not fake a full chart.
Three buyer questions
- Am I checking pillars or star palaces?
- Are intermediate facts visible?
- Are claims cited — or only a vibe score?
Short take
Choose the system, then the tool. Upcoming modules stay labeled upcoming — SEO education yes, fake charts no.
